I have a project that needs a continuous data acquisition, monitoring and storing solution to be build in LabView. It requires initially four simple RS232 and one RS485 driver to be written. There is some documentation available on the driver protocol but it may need work on figuring out the exact wiring and commands back and forth. I am using an industrial type RS232 to USB converter (FTDI chip) and two of the devices are able to talk to the computer. The other two I have not yet luck. We want to connect 2 Windows computers to each other using RS485 cables from FTDI. () One computer should act as a Modbus master device, the other computer should act as a Modbus Slave device. I have an EXTREMELY specific use case where I need the ability to manage RS485 equipment at a remote location. Unfortunately, the software that's required to manage this equipment will NOT work with Virtual Com Ports, it requires a physical FTDI FT232RL connected to my Windows laptop. To further clarify, the software itself does not allow me to choose virtual ports, it ONLY allows me to choose actual FT232RL hardware that's physically connected via USB. I've tried all the various "RS485->Ethernet" software bundles out there, but none of them work because they create Virtual Com Ports, which the software doesn't support.
