Currently operating a Plesk server with 10-15 Domains. We are currently increasing the number of MISSION CRITICAL applications for our customers hosted on the server and as such we need to ensure this data is protected and if the server should go down that another server takes its place ensuring minimal downtime and data loss. Most of the sites run MySQL databases on Plesk 9. All of the sites have email which is heavily used and the server is used for Storage for most accounts (IMAP). Requirements: - Setup a second server to act as a standby server in case primary server goes down. (Second server yet to be ordered - will take advise) - SQL should match at all times with primary server. - Emails should be sync'd 3 times daily. (will take advise on this). - Server backups from Primary server to be stored on secondary server AND a 3rd party FTP storage (will take advise on this) Will take advise on any other considerations. This is the first time I have approached this topic so it is new to me.

Hello, I am a Linux system administrator working for small and big companies, managing all kind of software, setup and weirdness. I have already done few install like the one you are looking for. The best way to achive your goal will be using a DRBD disk and heartbeat. The primary server will sync his disk to the secondary one. If the first fails, heartbeat will start service on the second and after few seconds of delay, all is again up and running. The advantage of this solution is the lack of "manual sync": all is automatically synched. Having a disk in DRBD is however a big performance loss (I don't know how busy is your server). A More simpler solution will be a multi master mysql setup (but you will have only one server active at time) with email synching as you said. Heartbeat will check for server failure and switch service from one to the other. No problems for the backup. More detail on what is needed via PM.
