This is basicly server coding I have created for a mud based game. The server requires: 1. Convert from MS ACCESS to MySQL or similar, 2. Optimize any coding needed. I am hoping it can hold a good amount of people without lagging if it comes that point. ## Deliverables I have a Mud based graphical game I've made couple years back, and I wanted to finish it, but I don't have time to optimize the coding for it. What I want done is to convert the database from MS ACCESS to MySQL, and also optimizing any coding that could be quicker as a secondary task. The database itself has about 35 small tables, (For example, one for players, one for armor, one for weapons, one for gadgets, one for shirts, etc etc.) I had to split up the player database into three tables because ACCESS couldn't support enough columns that I wanted. So that needs to be combineded into one with mysql. Half of it is uncommented, but the main thing is changing all where it states MS ACCESS.. Alot of it is self explainitory that it uses MS ACCESS for example: [login to view URL] aCount = [login to view URL] [login to view URL] For x = 1 To aCount If x = 1 Then arealist = rsAreaData!AreaName Else arealist = arealist + "•" + rsAreaData!AreaName End If [login to view URL] Next Would get the rsAreaData table info, all of it basicly. Most of it looks like that. The toughest area will be the character equipping/unequipping area, as it has several references to the MS ACCESS.. Also the in game editors have a heavy portion of the mysql coding since they edit weapons/armor/etc in real time. Continuing on, the secondary thing will be to try to optimize it while working on the conversion. The table uses many global variables, which store. Basicly what happens is: When a character comes on, data is loaded into global variables, when something happens that needs to be saved, lets say experience is gained, it will save it to the database real time. There may be a better way to do this, so this is why it is a secondary task, but would be great to have this done as well. The server is more where all the coding is, client just grabs and sends. So the server coding is what you need to mainly change. The client does not have to be changed unless you make some changes to the way data is sent/recieved. All of the server coding is done in named modules at least, due to the lack of comments, for example '[login to view URL]' would be the equipping of armor/weapons. More information can be described when needed, but this is a good portion of it. So 1. Convert from MS ACCESS to MySQL or similar, 2. Optimize any coding needed. I am hoping it can hold a good amount of people without lagging if it comes that point. There is no 'set time' to finish it as long as its a 'acceptable' amount of time. Basicly, no rush.
