Reading USB barcode scanner from a Vb.Net winform application

I’m looking for somebody who can help me writing few lines of code to read a standard USB barcode scanner. This code will be part of an existing Vb.Net winForm application. The challenge is that the USB barcode scanner reading must be processed within a window that also handles user’s inputs from a regular keyboard so the commonly used method of focusing on a text input control and then scan a barcode WILL NOT work (technically works but it is not reliable as the input from the scanner gets mixed with the keyboard). Ideally I need something that identifies the USB information, confirms that is coming from the desired source (the barcode scanner in this case) and then processes the actual reading. Most likely this process will have to run as a background process as I need to update a couple of fields (counter) in a database. I already have the required queries in place. The deliverable consist on some lines of code, preferably in VB.Net that can differentiate the input from the keyboard and the scanner. I need to avoid the use of additional drivers. Also I expect some explanations on how to configure the scanner or COM ports if required. Additional info: -The existing winform app runs on a Windows environment (Windows 7 or terminal server) -I may consider the use to USB to COM port method, in which case the algorithm should be able to read the COM port -The scanner I’m using for testing is an OPI-2002 (opticon).
