You should go for virtualization because it has many advantages: - VM is portable and decouple from underlying hardware - Easy to backup and recovery - Easy to scale - Performance with high utilization Although it depends on your purpose, every virtualization solution has advantages and disadvantages which is related to cost, performance, compatibility, etc. I prefer VMware because the ease of use, ease of management, stable and wide range of OS support.

Hi, there are few more questions to ask in order to find the right solution for your case. Do you have direct access to server, will you operate it yourself directly? What kind of Linux distribution would you like to install? How familiar are you with Linux and virtualization in general? Will it be used just by yourself or will there be a bigger user base creating and deleting VMs on demand in higher volumes? What about stability and persistence of whole environment?
