We are looking to appoint a Naval Architect to design an innovative and affordable lightweight kit Catamaran (approx. 16-17m ) as we have not been able to find exactly what we want from other vendors. What's more, many seem quite in love with their designs & don't encourage client changes or even pursue modern technology practices....
Having spent a lot of time looking at (& talking to) the many vendors of generic models available on the market, we’ve now come up with a few of our own ideas as well as some operational 'nice-to-haves' that for whatever reason, we have never seen offered anywhere. Of course, we do realize that some of these may be so radical/unusual to the point of being 'marine' problematic & if this turns out to be the case, then we'll likely drop them reverting to 'standard' practice/design.
First and foremost we would require:
• Striking aesthetics, lightship (7-8t), with reverse wave piercing bows, open airy saloon, slim hulls & able to be sailed short-handed
• Flexible Accommodation options including 2+2 cabins (stern) with 'overflow' single bunks up front in one hull.
• "Crossbeam-less" longeron/prodder to save DIY assembly work & costs? (TBD)
• Good cross-ventilation with open look & feel to entire top deck/cockpit (& similar in hulls).
AND critically important
• A flatpack/strip planked nested or infusion ‘kit’ that's efficient & easily assembled by DIY builders
In summary, we are looking for someone to help with an original, affordable & aesthetically pleasing design that of course would not only suit our needs, but potentially attract other like-minded kit builders, without the ‘Marine prices’ (see image ). We are happy to assist with more info/help as much as we can to enable you to fine-tune the model & also foresee doing some basic CFD expertise to ensure the hull shape/rudder is efficient across a speed range 12-24kts & be sure the concept is 'doable' as a kit.
Given this, we anticipate 3 milestones as follows:
a) Photo realistic images (concept 3D CAD file will be supplied)
b) Engineered design for fibreglass panel (or infused) construction - with full IP 'rights'
c) PC Files/Plans – Nesting, CAD and 2D Construction instruction detail

Hi, I work closely with a Naval Architect here is Cape Town South Africa. We have been doing a couple of concept designs.
I think you will be glad to hear that we aren't pushing our own designs but pride ourselves rather in determining the feasibility of the vessel in terms of stability, ride quality, and overall performance of the vessel.
Everything thing on your requirement list seems reasonable, except the "Crossbeamless" but we can have a chat about that.
Design can be according to CE this will make the design/boat more appealing and trustworthy if you know what I mean. It will also include the CFD so you know that if a client follows our build instructions the vessel will be built to a decent standard.
