Jakarta advises residents to be wary of travel fraud.

The Jakarta Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service Office (DPMPTSP) has warned residents and prospective tourists to be wary of fraudulent travel agents as the holiday season approaches.
"We are currently in November, and we should find the holiday date in this month; we want to heal." "It must take a long time to find the right travel agent or destination when we (plan a) vacation," Jakarta DPMPTSP counseling affairs sub-coordinator Rinaldi said here on Saturday.
According to him, people sometimes meet illegal travel agents when planning a year-end vacation.
"This is tragic; instead of healing, (they) waste their time, money, and energy, and even their partner may become angry, (resulting in) a loss of harmony in the relationship."
To combat this issue, the Jakarta provincial government is collaborating with the Indonesian Travel Agents Association (Astindo) to share tips with the public on how to avoid fraudulent travel agents.
The first tip is to avoid being swayed by low-cost open trips. The second tip is to check the legality of the travel agent, and the third is to check the prices of tourism products offered by legal and licensed travel agents.
"If the price is too low, it should be suspected," Astindo's head of public relations, Madeleine Sophie, explained.

The following pointers are to be cautious when transacting with a travel agent and to consider other customers' reviews of the services.
"When we make a payment to the company's account, we must make sure to check the review on social media," Sophie explained.
She also advised people to get recommendations from trusted friends or relatives and to use the services of licensed and registered travel agents.
She also urged potential tourists to buy tourism products from registered travel agents. "(Registered travel agents) are available throughout Indonesia, and they are legal if they are members of Astindo," she explained.
