I proposed a detailed finite element stress analyisis using methodology level III stablished in API 579/ ASME FFS-1 in order to determine if the storage tank could operate safely. A nummerical model will be developed using ANSYS Mechanical. Geometrical imperfections will be added to the tank in order to obtain a more realistic deformation and detailed stress distribution. Results will be processed according to guidelines stablished in API 579. Acceptance criteria will be defined with client according to the location and how critical the service is. The main requirements are: - Drawings of the tank. (As built as a first option, but for construction should work). - Data sheet of the tank with list of materials. - Description of the geommetrical imperfections of the tank surface, if it is local or general. If there is no detailed information of deformation e.g. as produced by a Laser Scanner, some modelling strategy could be used in order to improve the finite element model and predict an approximate behaviour. - Actual pictures of the deformed tank could be useful. As a result, a detailed report should be delivered with recommendations according with the data given by client and results obtained. Communication could be by email and skype calls in order to follow progress and improve project flow.
