I am looking for a bullet-point list (with simple, concise explanations) of talking points for a speech explaining the technical side of quilting. 1,000 words. No filler language. Just the research in a bullet-point format.

My audience is bright, creative people with limited business knowledge. They would like to offer their finished quilts, new patterns and teaching skills for sale. But, they don't understand the basics of creating a professional quality product.

Here are some of their questions:

How much fabric do I need to make a quilt without buying a pattern?

What is the best solution for bunching while / during machine quilting?

How do you miter the corners on the binding?

Do you know of an easy procedure to transform patterns written using the templates method to strip piecing? Is there an easy formula? Or just work out each one in a very time consuming manner. I have not seen this addressed on the quilting forum or any other site.

Teach me to cut straight, and make all the same size.

Where are the best places to get fabric for quilts. What size do you make for twin, Queen etc. bed?

How can some people put on binding so easily and I have such a hard time of it?? I have read all kinds of hints and tutorials, and still have such a problem. And also, what is birthing a quilt??

How does one learn to do the beautiful free motion quilting on a home sewing machine?

What kind of thick batting is the best to use that will keep it's shape and stand up to use and abuse?

How to get perfect points.

When you free motion quilt say a twin or full size quilt in just a meander or something similar, how far apart is the stitching usually for a nice uniform pattern? About the size of a quarter or a dime? Second: when you use a stencil (for example) in a block how much room do you leave between the edge of the motif and the seams of the block?

Can I iron my fabrics before cutting them?

Since I just recently started on this quilting adventure, I've done everything with a sewing machine (even quilting). I am considering learning applique but am a little intimidated by it. Here's my question: If I cut out a shape, is it supposed to be "hemmed" all around and sewn down, or how is it held down? Or, do I cut it to the exact size, then how do you keep the edges from fraying later when the quilt is washed? Or ... what's the best way to start learning applique?
