Database Update Script for Joomla CMS Component - CHARITY WORK

THE PROBLEM The charity currently utilises a cloud-hosted application for managing all the animals cared for within the shelter. This allows full cataloguing of the animals available for adoption which are to be promoted via the charity’s website and social media channels. The charity’s website is a separately hosted site based on the Joomla Content Management System, utilising a classifieds ad component to present the list of available animals. There is no interface between the two applications at this time meaning both need to be maintained separately. This results in delays in the website being updated, which often falls significantly out of date due to limited availability of volunteer time to maintain the content of the website. THE REQUIREMENT The charity are in the process of upgrading their website to latest version of the Joomla CMS platform, and the latest version of the corresponding component (Jom Classifieds). The requirement is to generate an appropriate script that can be scheduled via a daily cron job. The script will access data and images via the APIs already made available from Shelter Manager to populate the Joomla tables relating to the Jom Classifieds component. This will allow the data presented on the website to reflect that of Shelter Manager. A detailed specification of requirement, including field mapping and business rules to be incorporated within the script will be made available to the successful candidate. Note that the specification will be from a business context and it is expected that the successful candidate would interpret the requirements into an appropriate solution based on the available API and system requirements. Based in Glasgow, they operate predominantly throughout Central Scotland but are now embarking on expansion plans to increase the operational area throughout the wider Scottish community to meet the growing demand for rabbit-dedicated animal welfare services.
