There are a lot, thousands of jpgs and gif not being used still stored on my website. I would like them removed. They are all stored in ../../pc/catalog/subdirectory It has been attempted by spidering the site to id unused files, it was not successful. After thinking about how this might be done, I think that this would be a better approach. Two Stages Stage one A list of files of used image files could be compiled from the database that the pages are created from. There are three fields that hold all of the used image names and paths. These could be matched to the directory listing of existing pictures and the ones that don't match could be removed. These are mostly pictures that were loaded form a product data feed, but in the end only a small portion of the products in the feed were used. All images are held in one subdirectory tree ../../pc/catalog/cat1/cat1sub/ Post list to be deleted, I will review then delete a portion of the list from site and test to determine that there are not live files in the to-be-deleted list. Stage two Spider only the static pages for linked image files. about 800 static pages. Compile list, compare to directory list. delete those that do not match. All images are stored in the root/images/subdirectory tree.
