Pascal to Scheme converter; new TeX ----------------------------------- I want to develop a publishing system based on TeX. My language of choice is Scheme. TeX is written in Web, a Pascal dialect. I need a converter from Web to Scheme. Unfortunately, I have no time to work on the project, so I'm looking for a talent who is ready to accept the challenge and make a small revolution in computer typography. I'll make all my best to help. Qualification ------------- Please show that you have the following skills. * Knowledge of Scheme. * Basic knowledge of compiler theory. For example, you should know how to generate parsers automatically instead of manual coding. * Knowledge of TeX or desire to learn it. * It seems you should work under Linux. Development process ------------------- * You'll be added as a developer to the project sTeXme at SourceForge: [url removed, login to view] * Converting issues and porting issues will be mostly discussed in the mailing lists of the sTeXme project. The important decisions will be reproduced on RAC. * Project issues must be discussed on RAC. * You should regularly commit your code to CVS. * The project is open source. You are encouraged to apply for the Google Summer of Code program: [url removed, login to view] Deliverables ------------ * A converter from Web to Scheme. * Resulted Scheme code should work under Bigloo, Guile, and (if possible) Chicken. * Converted versions of the following programs: MetaFONT, TeX, eTeX. * The new programs should work exactly as the originals. MetaFONT should produce the same fonts, TeX and eTeX should give the same result on the test from teTeX distribution and on TeXbook. * A set of tests to check that results are really the same. * All should be packaged and documented in such a way, that any smart person with knowledge of TeX and Scheme should be able to use the converter and the new versions of the programs.
