We run outdoor-devices based on raspberry pi platforms. Those devices are remotely controlled via a web-application that generates the control-commands and sends them via openvpn to the respective Raspberry Pi device. Due to poor infrastructure, some of the devices must work under 3G/umts conditions. In this case a mobile USB-Surfstick (3G/UMTS) provides the Internet connection. Unfortunately this solution does not work sufficiently enough for our purposes. For unknown reason the device looses connection and does not come up again - even not with a software reboot. In such cases we must travel to the devices location and plug-off plug-on the power cable to re-initiate the internet connection. This is too nasty and costly. The scope of this project is to develop an appropriate software running on the ArchLinux RaspberryPi which initiates a reset by interrupting the units power as soon the internet-connection is lost for a given period of time. We have foreseen to use Yocto-Watchdog's as hardware unit (please see [login to view URL] for details.

Hi! You don't need any watchdog hardware for your RPBI! I can write suicide script - if device lost connect more than XXX time - it will reboot yourself. Please keep your money and

Hello! I think your goal may be reached by simpler method. Just using two GPIO port of Rpi for controlling power lines of USB port to modem. (via relays or optokeys).... It will be cheaper in hardware, and simpler in creating logic - usual linux shell script.

Hi sir, I have strong skills with Linux-based embedded systems and have worked with watchdog applications (also in kernel space). Here my proposal: - Development of a tiny C-application that pings the HW-watchdog of the Raspi and assures a system reboot if the connection is gone for some specific time - After a reboot, reset the USB-power line for hardware reset of the connected USB-modem I think this two points are enough for fixing your described issue. Hi, I am Laszlo Benke, from Hungary. I am an electrical engineer. I work as a C# and PLC developer. I am dealing with home-automation and RFID systems. I know the raspberry PI platform well. I made a home-automation system for myself. This can control the heating-water and air-conditioning and function as a burglar alarm system. You can control remotely, via mobile or web-browser. So I know the Raspbian (Debian Linux), Apache, PHP and Python technologies as well. I used ArchLinux for half year, I can help you with this problem. Can you send me details? Thanks. Best regards, Laszlo Benke

Hello Recruiter, I might be able save you the cost of purchasing another hardware watchdog, if you can let me know the details of the raspberry pi that you are using. I would like to discuss the possibility of not purchasing the Yocto watchdog, before I accept the work offer. Thanks, Yogiraj

Hi! I am an electrical engineer/developer from Hungary with 4+ years experience. I have completed successfully several similar projects on Raspberry Pi. However I would rather use C/C++ for this task (because of speed and experience), but I can do it in Python if you want. I also have the necessary tools (Raspberry PI, test tools like: Oscilloscope etc.).Best regards,Peter Rafi
