Wall Bracing Calculator Web Application Developer

The APA Wall Bracing Calculator is a tool to assist in designing residential structures that comply with the ICC (International Code Council) IRC (International Residential Code). The calculator serves two functions: First, it assists the user in determining the amount of bracing required for a given wall line. Second, it helps in identifying each bracing segment within a designated braced wall line. The current system is built in Microsoft Excel and is only available to APA employees for testing and demonstration use. Overview: APA is requesting proposals for the re-engineering of the Excel based APA Wall Bracing Calculator program into a custom web application accessible to users on APA's website, www.apawood.org. Due to budget requirements, APA intends to follow a strict schedule that includes the final delivery of the finished APA Wall Bracing Calculator no later than December 6, 2013. Objectives: The main objectives for re-engineering the APA Wall Bracing Calculator are: 1. Convert the calculator, with all current and some additional functionality (see Scope of Work), into a web application that utilizes modern web technologies. 2. Consider future growth, notably: Allow for future updates to the APA Wall bracing Calculator to reflect changes in the International Residential Code. Scope of work APA is seeking a web developer to complete the re-engineering of the APA Wall Bracing Calculator into a web application. The selected developer will work with APA to develop a web application that retains existing functionality of the Wall Bracing Calculator. In addition, the calculator should: - Allow users to start a project in the web app, save their work locally and later upload that file to the web app and pick up where they left off without having to reenter any information. - Functionally allow for the option to choose different version of the code, should we add it to the calculator in the future. - Enable sharing between users – files should be able to be shared through email, on a network, etc. - Offer a report option with a summary of calculation findings that can be printed or saved as a PDF.
