UK/European-Based Freelance Website Programmer

The Opportunity: Freelance Website Programmer/Manager Company Location: England. Job Type: Contract Key Technical Skills Required: MS SQL Server 2000; ASP (ADO/CDO etc); PHP; VB and VB Script; Object oriented techniques; Dreamweaver MX; Java; JavaScript; Batch Scripting; HTML; DHTML; XHTML; Server configuration set-up & administration (Windows 2000); DNS and IIS5; Flash (some); Actionscript (some); Apache 2.0; Fireworks; Photoshop. Supporting Skills Required: Good knowledge of e-commerce and web technology; Good software/systems integration skills: Good understanding of cross platform and browser issues; Ability to write clear, simple software specifications and supporting documentation; Ability to quickly and effectively map out software code (preferably using software tools) so that other programmers can quickly understand it and work on it; Strong planning and organisational skills; Excellent debugging skills; Unit testing capabilities; Ability to work to tight deadlines; Self managing and self-motivated; Excellent communication and “programmer-management” skills. An easy-going, flexible nature and a love of programming. The Website: Over the past year we have constructed an exciting, revolutionary, international e-commerce website. The website was successfully launched in 2003 and now has members in 22 countries - and a Google page rank of 6/10. We also have a team of ten part-time programmers, designers and technical writers situated across the UK and across the world. The Project: We are currently looking for a fast, accurate experienced UK-based website programmer/manager capable of: •Efficiently and effectively maintaining the existing website and rapidly introducing (and managing the introduction of) a host new features into the current website or a new version of the current website – whilst maintaining a presence on the Internet at all times. •Modifying the existing code (75% of the code is in a currently single VB dll) and making it modular OR building a new (replacement) website framework which will comprise modular code - so as to allow the team of autonomous, international, independent programmers (and designers) to develop new website features and modules, which can then be integrated into the (new or improved) website, whilst maintaining intellectual property rights security. Experience of working or managing a team in an open source environment (particularly Jabber) would be a distinct advantage.
