Need to clarify DNS configuration (A-records, PTR-records). Probably you have some mistakes in DNS configuration for Direct DNS or for reverse DNS zones.

You would need a mail server, and if you have obtained that one, the rest would be easy. The MX record would simply bind to the IP of the mail server. You can also rent an existing server and use it to receive your emails. However, if you do not have mail server and you need one set up, this project would be a lot of under budget for that one.
