THE ARTIZAN COLLECTION ENCOMPASSES TEXTILE FUSION AND THE SUPPORT OF GLOBAL ARTISANS. IT’S WHERE STYLE MEETS TRADITIONAL WEAVES. Our goal is to support and bring awareness to various underprivileged cultures and/or individuals who produce textiles, by transforming their stunning handicrafts into beautiful fashion accessories and homewares. THE STORY The Artizan Collection was born during a trip to the home in exile of the Dali Lama in northern India. We were captivated by the brightly coloured, striped aprons worn by the Tibetan women & we quickly learnt the importance of the preservation of this distinct, ancient craft. Also driven by the plight of this refugee community, we set about finding a way to transform these gorgeous pieces into something others in the western world would love. In turn this will help to sustain their handicraft culture and awareness of the issues this society faces. To find out more visit: [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] ABOUT THE TEXTILE Handwoven from fine wool or silk these gorgeous multi-coloured pieces are produced into 3 panels then hand-stitched together. This ‘pangden’ or ‘sherma’ communicates two aspects of a Tibetan woman’s identity. Traditionally, only married women wore aprons, served as mark of their marital status similar to the ring signifies in western culture. Secondly, the stripe patterns and colour are unique to different regions of Tibet indicating the worman’s origin. A crease is created in the centre of the apron from top to bottom and features in some of our products indicating the the genuiness of the apron. Only very small quanitites of each apron are available so only smalll amounts of each colour combination is available makig each product a limited edition. ABOUT THE CLUTCHES Colour paired & backed with with premium leather and lined with a cotton drill including a small pocket, they are beautifully hand crafted in Sydney. You can flip the top of the clutch to make it reversible. 2 bags in one!
