Database and web template - Sports Horse Racing site

We are in the thought process of building a website using horse racing statistics that need to be updated daily by hand. This database needs to be available with todays information for subscribers on our website. Looking to consult with some individual or group as how to proceed in building a database, that can be interfaced with a web template. We are presently using off the shelf excel for our database work, but want to build a database that can be opened remotely to input data. We are not that familiar with different types of databases, that can easily be interfaced for these purposes. We need to discuss with someone familiar in database design to guide us in how to develop our site. Things we want to accomplish: 1. We have a site presently, but need to either interface with the database or some simple off the shelf design. 2. Have plug in for paid subscribers to handle payments. 3. Allow for daily publishing of information for subscribers. 4. Allow for remote access to enter data, without compromising the site.
