csv to Excel AUTOMATIC allocation of figures

Hi there. We are stocktakers for pubs and need to enter the till sales into our Excel report. We are often given csv or Excel files which we manually enter into our Excel spreadsheet. I dare say it's pretty easy to convert the csv file to Excel, but I was just wondering.... a. Is it possible to *automatically* allocate the appropriate figures into our spreadsheet ? ie. Lets say the first product on the till report is Bacardi and it has sales of £100. Is it possible from a press of a button for Excel to read the word Bacardi and then allocate £100 worth of sales against this product in our spreadsheet ? Obviously then do the same for every product on the customer's till report. b. Probably much harder, but sometimes we are given a printout. Is it at all possible to scan the sheets, convert the PDF to Excel and then allocate all the amounts as above ? It would be great to hear what is possible. Thanks.

Hi, Option "a" is possible, but option "b" is not as you first need to convert the data from scanned file to Excel with OCR software. That data need to be checked manually for accuracy before processing in Excel. Regards Ravi

Hello, answer to your first question is yes and it can be done using a macro, also let me know if you are using mac or windows but answer is to your second question is negative since it needs a very strong application and even in that case it may not be accurate.

Hi there, I've been working with Excel since before '98 and I've been using all possible versions of it. I have years of experience working with macros and writing / debugging VBA code. You may check my portfolio images to see few pieces of my kind of work. (This is what I do on daily basis). I am a professional and I can do a very good job. Also accurate. What you require is not an easy task and it can take days to deliver a product that works correctly. a - is possible; b - not possible to extract correct information from scanned pdf to excel. Errors may occur and therefore not to be trusted when it comes of financial figures for automatic processing. Hi there , I would like to see a) sample excel file , with sample data file to be filled b) Do you use excel sheet as database ( complex scripts and calculations added ? ) c) For scanning the document into pdf/image then to excel will require OCR ( optical character reader) which depends on the "Training" the software with various data and quality of the scan contents If you like to take my services as consultancy and developer , please ping me . Hello, Can we have more discussion on your project. From excel to csv and from csv to excel is possible. And it is also possible that you enter the data in a web form and you can get the result in the form of excel or csv. Can you show me your excel or csv files. I have done this kind of work earlier also. I have 3+ years of experience in php and mysql. I have expertise in database. And also I am a Oracle certified associate.

Hello, Yes it is possible (a. and ie.). b. is not possible. Could you send a sample csv file and you excel report file? I am sure that the job is easy and should not take a long time. I'm Excel and VBA programmer with over 5 year of experience. I have written many different applications for Excel in recent years. I am confident that I can perform this task.
