Creating, developing and deploying a simple web service

creating a simple service that is accessible in a variety of ways using different technologies, and critically assess these approaches.

The purpose of the project is:

• to demonstrate that you can use a variety of web service access mechanisms.

• to demonstrate you can return data in a variety of data formats.

• you are able to use an Ajax library to access/retrieve data from a web service, formatting the data received for the user.

You will develop a simple film Web service from scratch, deploy it and develop a range of clients to access the data.

It is required to do/use:

I. Interface.

II. Storage.

III. Java, JSON, XML, SOAP, WSDL, REST, AJAX and Google App Engine Technologies.

IV. Evaluation: give a critical analysis of the work and the techniques that have been used including the pros and cons of each approach, and design/implementation. Show good SE techniques that have been employed, and where they are in the code, together with Design Patterns used, and where used.

V. Deliverables:

- A word file showing the code working, using screenshots of input and results for ALL sections, and suitable descriptions, and critical analysis. Note that contents of the report will be principally assessed. The submitted projects will be sampled and compiled as necessary for verification and moderation.

- A README file describing the steps to invoke your programs for deploying, publishing and finding the Web service.

- Commented code listings included in the project.

- An Eclipse project(s) with the code ready to compile. You may have more than one project for client and server if you wish.
