Arena Simulation Output Analysis

Suppose that you are hired to analyze a hospital system and make recommendations with the objective of improving the operations and service quality. There are several departments that are part of this full-service hospital. However, in this project you will mainly focus on the emergency department (ED). The other departments include Imaging, Lab, and Surgery, all of which provide service to the ED as well as to the rest of the hospital. Clearly, the patients in ED compete with those from other departments; for example, hospital inpatients may also need imaging diagnostics. However, this study assumes that a certain number of resources are allocated to the ED; this assumption can be relaxed when the model also incorporates the operations of other departments (which are outside the scope of this project). The Project modele is given in attachments. We want you to do output analysis of model given. Output Analysis: a) List the performance measures used in order to evaluate the system goals. b) Assume that the ED serves continuously, 24 hours a day. Perform an output analysis to determine the truncation point, replication length and number of replications. c) Generation of alternative scenarios. (Based on initial estimates determined for the performance measures, explain how you came up with these scenarios.) d) Estimation of performance measures for each proposed alternative scenario. e) Statistical comparison of generated alternative scenarios. You should remember that there is a tradeoff between the quality of your analysis and the computational effort you spend, so try to choose the right sample size at every step. You may use the ARENA Output Analyzer to compare two scenarios, Process Analyzer to compare many scenarios, OptQuest to search for a near optimal scenario. You do not need to use OptQuest to search for a near optimal scenario. Comparing several scenarios to come up with reasonable suggestions would be sufficient. 7. Conclusion: Your main conclusions regarding the estimates you found, suggestions to improve the system’s performance, and difficulties you experienced in conducting the simulation study.
