Ardino SMS controller that can Send , Receieve , SMS or connect to server with GPRS.
I would be using Ardino Mega 2560 with the following Add Ons all working together
(1) Sim 800 GSM/GPRS Module to send / receieve SMS ( on interrupt) , Connect to server by GPRS ( using Serial 1)
(2) One RS485 Reader to read data from device and send to server using GPRS or SMS (using Serial 2)
(3) Ethernet shield to connect to local Router/LAN
