Exercise at Home
Hey guys. I thought I'd actually present my own home workout method here (it's not going to be a sales pitch, as I don't actually have a product haha...).
What this method is about, is results -- as every method should be, or it would be worthless. It's important, when you use it, that you realize that if you haven't worked out before, or at a high level for a while, you will not know how far you can push yourself. The first few times you take it easy, using minimal weights, and at the following workout increase weight. But after that, you need to keep in mind that most likely you're not pushing yourself anything close to max - so you want to constantly strive to make your muscles suffer more. It's also about the minimal use of equipment, actually none is used. In most cases, this method is about using body weight.
There are a few principles that make up my method -- these are constant variation, constant action, right action, and "go for the last few %". Let's say you work out your shoulders today, and you sit on a chair. First you start doing anything, while applying "constant action" with your body. Then, what do you do? Well, to know what to do next you have to know what the result was of what you just did. How do you find that out? You feel it in your muscle, obviously. If it felt a little, cool, move in the direction that you think will give more of a result. If it does, continue in that direction - and if it didn't, do something else.
I mentioned constant variation, and I did because it is what will cut the learning curve, and improve time efficiency for you. As for every little thing you try, you get an improved understanding of your body, which is good for the current workout, but also good for the future, as it provides something for you to remember and say "hey, I remember.. I did this that way!".
I mentioned right action, and what is that? Right action is simply going in the right direction. Right action is doing the right thing; in this case, exposing your muscle to increased stress.
I mentioned "go for the last few %".. meaning? Those few % are practically all the result. When Arnold Schwarzenegger, previous Mr. Olympia winner, if you didn't know, was asked what gave the best result in a workout consisting of ten repetitions, he answered "the eleventh". That says everything. As strength training is about becoming stronger, challenging your body is what gives you a result - and if you do it more than everyone else, you get a better result than everyone else.
So, to make a summarization, start taking action, then listen to your body for feedback, and immediately do something else. If what you just did was a step in the right direction, you continue going in that direction, and if it wasn't, you do something else. Also, remember to always keep in mind that most likely you are not pushing yourself anything remotely close to max - so go harder, constantly.
