Mindfulness is not the same as meditation, with meditation being one of many tools to achieve mindfulness. Mindfulness, as an example, might include being attentive to one’s current stream of thoughts in a non-judgemental and accepting way. Practising mindfulness is said to help increase self-awareness and help people experience life, including distressing thoughts and feelings, in a safe way that promotes balance, calmness, and self-compassion. A number of research studies have highlighted a relationship between mindfulness and improved well-being (e.g., reduced stress, reduced anxiety, improved psychology well-being).
