Key point: This assignment is designed to echo the internal new product development process of companies and to alert students, in a practical fashion, to the issues associated with developing a new product and issues associated with team management.
Written report: should integrate both parts and feedback with more elaboration and needs to be submitted to Turnitin with the official cover page.
Topics included in the presentations are:
The group is to submit a new product protocol on a “new” product or service. This is to be “hypothetical” new product – not in existence at the moment. It can be any industry sector e.g., food, electronics, finance, auto industry etc. Specifically, the new product protocol is to address the key issues:
• The idea generation process used
• The idea screening decision the group made
• The concept generation process
• The development of a concept: positioning, attributes, augmentation dimensions
• Clear identification of the desired target market
“go-to-market” launching plan and other related issues
• Launching plan and management
• Related issues like regulation, legal ethical and social considerations
Writing report: based on the feedback, each group needs to put two presentations together for a complete NPD proposal with reflection. The format requirements are: max 10 pages excluding cover page, appendix and table of content; 12 font size; 1.5 space; single column; A4. Please refer to the appendix for the required structure and detailed expectations.
Please note these are flexible and can be modified to suit the nature of the new product. Your content should be discussed with the lecturer prior to the presentation. In all cases you must gain approval for the product chosen from your lecturer prior to commencing the group project.
