Hi, I have worked a handful of times with OCR technologies for different purposes. I have however never processes handwritten text, this is a complex task, but very interesting. I can see many possibilities and features to maximize the program's accuracy. One idea that may be worth taking into consideration, depending on the length and provenance of the letters, is a simple yet effective machine learning algorithm which would enable the program to familiarize itself with a particular kind of handwriting. I think that for consistent results, it may be necessary to implement some human input, either pre-processing, post-processing or a combination. This would be important in order to ensure accurate results. I would recommend a handle of letters, which are classified as unsure (identified with accuracies beneath a certain lower bound) to be verified by user input, the program would then store that extra information in order to better analyze future texts which it considers holds text with a similar kind of handwriting.
