Online Fantasy Football (Soccer) Game
Outline
This will function much like any other regular online fantasy football/soccer game, based on players within the English Premier League (only). A spreadsheet file is available on request, as a guide to how things will integrate into the web pages and how these pages will subsequently link together.
Home Page
When you first load up the site you'll get the home page comprising a welcome message explaining all about the game, links to the rules section, team selection etc., and a login section for members to skip to their team.
Rules Page
The rules page will just consist of the game details and conditions of entry. This will also feature how points are earned by each player (according to real life performances). Still to be decided upon.
Team Selection
I'm not entirely sure what's possible here but what I'm hoping for is that when you check the box for a particular player, their details appear on the pitch below and the total value increments accordingly. This would have to be constrained so that players can only be picked according to a strict formation (e.g. 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 5-4-1, 5-3-2, 3-5-2, 3-4-3). Once a valid team has been entered, the user will be taken on to the details section where they'll have to provide basic information about themselves. Following that they'll need to actually pay for the team they wish to enter so I'll need a link into a secure payment site (mostly likely PayPal). Once this has successfully been completed, all of this information will need to be stored.
“Your” Team
The player will then be taken to the "Your Team" screen which will be the first thing they'll see whenever they log in again. Here they'll see a short review of any games that have taken place recently followed by the player's team. The main links from here will be to the player scores and team leaderboards.
The player scores are pretty self explanatory but it would be nice to be able to sort them by any of the fields. The team leaderboard will show the top few teams and the actual team of the leader. Additional charts for manager and team of the week, player values, etc., would be welcome.
That's essentially it in terms of what I want players to see. As for what's going on behind the scenes, I can't think of much beyond the obvious - gathering and storing player data safely and securely, trying to pick up and flag the inevitable profanities in team names, making sure that invalid entries don't get through, that navigating back and forward takes you where it should and so on. Once it's up and running, I'd like to be able to post regular updates myself if possible (to the player & team data and the online narrative), thus requiring full administrative control.
Further Information
The site will be made using PHP/MySql, and perhaps Flash at certain points (the team selection screen). It will have a time system, which blocks all the team modifications by 00:00 Friday nights every week.
A menu will be added on the administrator side in order to control and add banner codes in the designated places in the site, as well as to update player and team data weekly.
Summary
Key things at this stage are your estimates of how long this would take to put together and what the cost would be. It would also be good to know of any constraints that might limit the number of players that can enter.
The successful bidder will not be the cheapest, but the one that is experienced, will test the project thoroughly, provide an accurate timeframe for completion, have an excellent grasp of English, knowledge of English football and who might be able to work with me again on future projects.
I am more concerned about the programming/scripting side of things, since I am a reputable web designer with excellent graphic design skills.
Please feel free to post to the PMB.
