Here are my thoughts on the application itself:
It starts of course with a "Welcome/Login" screen - financial advisors would login here to view their clients.
The basic heirarchy of the application is:? Advisors have Clients, Clients have Accounts, Accounts have Investments, Investments and the core is? Transactions.?
Clients - Need to be able to Add/Edit/Close Clients.? Client information needed includes: names, addresses, phones, e-mail etc.?
Accounts - Need to be able to Add/Edit/Close Accounts and connect them to a Client.? Information needed is account numbers, account type (RRSP, LIRA, RRIFetc.) financial institution, beneficiary, dates open, date closed, starting balance, current balance (calculated from investment totals), return (calculated)
Investments - Need investment names, types (equity, option, mutual fund etc.), purchase price, date purchased, date sold, units, current market value (calculated based on daily rate), Gain/Loss (calculated), Rate of Return (calculated).?
Cash - accounts can hold Investments and Cash so we'll need to be able to track opening cash balance, current and closing cash balance.
Tranactions - the transactions are the basis for everything else, they include:
Cash - Deposit / Withdrawal / Transfer
Investments - Buy / Sell / Transfer / Switches, this includes using available online information for quotes and fund names.
Accounts - Open / Close
Admin - is where we could add/edit/delet users and give roles, configure drop-downs, set up notifications etc.
Those are the basic pages that we'll need to get started.? ? ?
A financial news ticker area will be required on the main screen for advisors, using information fed from another online source.
Canned Client, Account and Investment Reports as well as Client? "Statements" are required functionality.
The tracking/calculating of fees and commissions is required.
Ideally the application will be? a web app developed in? visual studio with? MS Sql server at the backend but I'm open to consider other options.
