Job Description:
PROJECT:
For this project, you will create a total of 10 compositions.
In each composition, combine (at least) 2 separate images together in experimental/imaginative ways that combine forms into photorealistic compositions that look UNCANNY/REAL/COHESIVE in contrast to the collage/cut-out look of P1.
For each composition, download (at least 2) high-quality images from the internet with the knowledge that you will be fusing their forms together in order to create a new organic form.
Use the Move tool and the Opacity settings control in each layer in order to place them in relationship to each other. Use the Transform command (command+t) to line up the two forms as close as possible relative to size and orientation.
Once you have these two forms in alignment, use option+drag to make several copies of both to experiment with blending modes and the eraser tool.
All brush-type tools in PS (including erasers) are re-sized by pressing right and left bracket keys on the keyboard. By holding shift and pressing a bracket key you can make the tool harder or softer—softer often makes for more nuanced blending.
There are at least 2 strategies to consider to approach this: combining heads/faces and combining body parts.
Save as PSD and “save as” a PNG copy of each image (easier to share in class) and also save your PSD for the layers.
Techniques used:
Masking (Vector)
Select a layer to add a mask to by clicking on the thumbnail part of the layer.
At the bottom of the layer window, click on the icon shaped like a rectangle with a circle in it. This will create a second thumbnail on the same layer. Click on this second icon to select the mask.
Select your brush by pressing b on the keyboard. Painting with the color black will “erase” the mask on the layer. Painting with the color white will restore the mask/original image. This is a more subtle way to blend layers without using the selection tools.
Layer Modes
To cycle through the layer styles:
Must have move tool (v) selected.
Select the layer to blend (the top layer in a stack determines blending with the layer directly beneath it).
Hold the shift key while pressing + (the plus key ) to cycle forward and shift - (minus key) to cycle backward through modes.
Since you are using different images, results will vary, so you experiment to find the mode that best fits the effect that you are striving for.

Right or Left brackets change the brush size to make it smaller or larger
Shift+ right or left brackets will make the brush harder or softer
X toggles colors in the lower left-hand window for the brush
