What I need is a way to access the iOS photo library in an HTML5 app, similar to the way this works: [login to view URL] The problem is, that application only allows the user to upload the selected images to a web server; it doesn't give you an option to get the image back as a base64 string in your JavaScript. PhoneGap has a photo picker, and it can return a base64 string containing the binary of the jpeg. The PhoneGap JavaScript call for doing this is: [login to view URL](getPicture_Success, null, options) But I need a standalone app, like the Aurigma iphone product, and I need it to return me a base64 string of the JPEG binary. Please see Additional Info ## Deliverables Aurigma is probably based on this project: [login to view URL] You can see from the readme, what this guy does, is register the URL type "photopicker://" on the phone somehow. When Safari comes across a "photopicker://" URL, it runs the application, the application uploads some pictures to a server and then returns to Safari. If you can get it to work like that, that's great. If you have another way, that's fine too. Maybe an XmlHttpRequest that returns a JSON object? I have no idea. That's where you come in. The main point is: 1. From my HTML5 app, I want to be able to pop up this standalone application 2. The standalone application lets me choose the camera to let the user take a picture, or select a photo library 3. Somehow, the standalone app returns a base64 string with the binary of the JPEG. 4. It has to work offline. An internet connection can not be required for the software to work. You can probably find everything you need to complete this task in these two open source MIT-Licensed projects: [login to view URL] [login to view URL] Specifically, in iphone-photo-picker, this file: PhotoPickerViewController.m - probably the uploadImage method and in the PhoneGap source code, Classes\Image.m - probably the didFinishPickingImage method You'll notices these methods have some similarities. These are the required deliverables: 1. A folder with all Source Code for your iOS project, must be XCode 4 compatible, including all classes, resources, and xcodeproj file. **I must be able to open this xcodeproj, hit run, and everything works.** No build errors or runtime exceptions. 2. Once this app is installed on the iPad, an HTML5 page with everything necessary to call this app. I must be able to run this HTML5 page on an iPad, click a "Choose Photo" button, and have it pop up the iOS app you'll be creating, and it needs to set an <img> tag's source to the base64 image, like this code, from the PhoneGap API documentation: var image = [login to view URL]('myImage'); [login to view URL] = "data:image/jpeg;base64," + imageData; [login to view URL]
