Writing Assignment 2 – Social Media: the good, the bad, the ugly Overview In Chapter 7, we discussed various aspects of social media. The textbook is asking a very simple question: Are social media good, bad, and ugly? I believe that the answer would not be that simple. Social media provide lots of technological and cultural benefits to us, as we looked in the textbook. On the other hand, social media also include many concerns, such as trustworthy of information, privacy issues, cyberbullying issue, and etc. Read the chapter carefully and gather more regarding information from online and offline materials. Based on the research, write your understanding of the various aspect of social media. Do they have benefits compared to traditional media? Or even social media have many benefits, there are lots of concerns? Why do you think so? You should have the following elements in your draft: • Explain your clear argument on the benefits or(and) concerns of social media. • Provide at least three reasons why you think like that. o You can find information about the benefits, concerns, and prospects of social media in chapter 7 of the textbook. o Also, you search for more knowledge on it online and offline and study it. o You have to at least one example from media content or your own experience. • List references in an appropriate way (APA, MLA or other citation styles) Instructions • Create a new document using MS Word process program. • Write your original idea in at least 500 words (double-spaced, 12-point Times or Times New Roman with one-inch margins) and save as “[login to view URL]” or “.doc.” • Submit your draft via Blackboard Learning. On the left side of the screen, you can find the menu called “Writing Essays.” Click the menu, then you will find four different assignments. Upload your draft to the assignment “Writing Essay 2: Social Media.” Format • Write subject-verb sentences in the present voice. Sentences should be brief and clear. Mass communicators need to be able to write simply as well as adapt to different writing styles for different situations. • New idea? Start a new paragraph. Start your paragraph with a topic sentence. • Impress me with your skills in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
