JOB DESCRIPTION: Regional Market Researcher – Indian Spices & Local Restaurants Title: Regional Market Researcher (State-Specific) – Indian Spices, Restaurants & Household Preferences Project Type: Freelance / Contract Duration: 2–3 Weeks per State Budget: ₹5,000 – ₹10,000 per state (depending on experience & sample size) About the Project We need on-ground market researchers in each Indian state to collect data on: What local restaurants use (spice brands, blends, sourcing) What households prefer in your state Which local spice brands / mills / chakkis are most trusted Which regional spices are most famous in your area This research will help us map India’s taste preferences state-by-state. Scope of Work 1. Restaurant Research (10–20 restaurants per state) You must visit or call popular restaurants and collect data on: Brands of chilli, turmeric, coriander, garam masala they use Whether they use packaged, local, or house-made masalas Reasons for choosing certain brands Dish-specific spice usage (e.g., chole masala, biryani masala, etc.) Photos of spice packaging (optional but preferred) We will provide the questionnaire. 2. Home Consumer Survey (20–40 people) Share the provided Google Form survey link in WhatsApp groups, housing societies, friends, family Collect responses on what brands households use, why, price sensitivity, taste expectations 3. Local Spice Sellers / Chakki Interviews (3–5 sellers) Ask sellers which spices sell the most Which local brands are strong What customers prefer in aroma, color, taste Any unique regional blends (e.g., Mathania chilli, Kolhapuri masala, Sambar powder) 4. Compile a State Report (Simple Google Sheet) You will fill a template that includes: Top spices used in restaurants Top brands in households Unique regional spices Price insights Opportunity gaps Photos (optional) Deliverables Restaurant Data Sheet (10–20 entries) Household Survey Data (minimum 20 valid entries) Local Seller Interviews (3–5 entries) State Spice Summary Report (1–2 pages) Photos of local spice brands (optional, bonus) Required Skills Good communication (Hindi/English + local language) Ability to visit markets/restaurants OR call them Knowledge of local cuisine is a plus Smartphone with internet Basic Excel/Google Sheets Ability to talk to chefs, sellers, shop owners Who Should Apply Students Food bloggers Marketing freelancers Field researchers Hospitality students Anyone familiar with the food scene in their state States We Are Hiring For We need one researcher for each state, including: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, UP, MP, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, J&K, Ladakh.
