University of Michigan - President's House Pergolas
Presupuesto $1500-3000 USD
Job Description:
This project consists of two metal-reinforced Azek pergolas, of which are located in the backyard of the property. Please see uploaded renderings for context. The idea is for our engineers to produce a complete drawing set, and submit them to you for stamps/adjustments in accordance with Michigan codes for wind load, weights, and other tolerances as needed. See summary below:
One pergola will be an in-line, half-round (18') radius trellis/pergola consisting of the following:
- Six 10'H fiberglass columns; each of which is shaped like an upside-down "L", and contain 4"sq welded heavy-duty steel core. The horizontal members cantilever, and protrude about 6' from the horizontal member, with no counterweight on the opposite side of the columns. They will be attached to substantial footings via connection plate welded to the bottom of the 4" cores. The plate will be affixed to the footing with four L-bolts, of which will be sunk into each footing, and leveling nuts/washers will be used to tie the connection plate to the bolts. Atop the horizontal members, there will be parallel 4x8 radius beams consisting of 2x5 aluminum tube, wrapped in Azek - each with an arclength of about 56'-57' and will be tied to the column members via threaded rod and coupler nuts - the span will be about 10' arc length. Atop those beams will be perpendicular 2x6 Azek "joists" with .625"x3.625" alum. i-beam internal cores. These will be tied down to the radius beams via SS powder coated "Rigid Tie" rail connector brackets.
The second pergola will consist of a single fiberglass column, with 4" sq. core (no welded cantilever) affixed to substantial footing via flange plates and L-bolts. Tied down onto the column, via threaded rod and coupler nut, will be a 28'L (O.A.) 4.5x12 Azek beam with internal steel i-beam; The span will be 23' with one end overhanging the column by 5', and the other end will attach to the house exterior via steel internal gusseted L-bracket. Atop the beam will be 2x8 aluminum i-beam-reinforced rafters that will tie down onto the beam with Rigid Ties, and will die into the face of the perpendicular "L" of the building via 2x8 ledger, and powder coated joist hangers. Atop the rafters (and perpendicular) will be 2x2 purlins affixed to the tops of the rafters with 2.5" SS decking screws (at each intersection).
