The Voice & Tone: Vocal Archetype: We are looking for a deep, resonant, and gravelly voice—similar to Sam Elliott, Morgan Freeman, or Jeff Bridges. Accent: General American or subtle Midwestern. Joe is a native of Chicago with blue-collar roots; the accent should sound grounded and authentic, not overly polished or theatrical. Tone & Pacing: The baseline pacing should be moderate and steady. The narrator must carry the authoritative, philosophical weight of an old man reflecting on history, but effortlessly pivot to convey emotional warmth, vulnerability, and sharp comedic timing during dialogue. The Performance Challenge: This is a single-narrator project. While the baseline voice is Joe’s deep, gravelly rumble, the narrator must seamlessly handle dialogue for several other characters, most notably: Sara: Joe’s wife.
