Reaction Paper

Each student will read A Child called “it”: One Child’s Courage to Survive by David Pelzer and write a reaction paper. The paper will consist of four (4) to six (6) typewritten pages plus a cover page and a properly prepared bibliography of references. THIS IS NOT A BOOK REPORT, nor is it a research paper. While not a research paper, some research will be required to complete the assignment. Your paper should include: A brief synopsis of what happens to this family in the book with a discussion on how this book impacted you both emotionally and cognitively. Be specific about the particular points that caught your attention and your reactions to them. A discussion of the instances in this story where people could have stopped the maltreatment but did not. Why do you think these individuals did not report the suspected maltreatment or try to intervene? What are your reactions to the individuals/organizations who failed to offer assistance? Could you envision yourself in a similar circumstance? An explanation of what constitutes child abuse and neglect in North Carolina and when Child Protective Services can intervene. Additionally, I would like your thoughts on when society should intervene. Discuss your thoughts on what prevented this family from receiving help at different points in time; and your ideas on whether and under what circumstances any of these reasons are sufficient for failure to protect a child. Your thoughts on how our society is currently protecting children. Could this situation continue to happen? Research and cite recent high profile cases of child abuse and neglect which support your position on how society is currently protecting children. How your thoughts, views, and opinions differ and/or are similar to your group members
