AN intensity 7.2 earthquake struck Cebu and Bohol shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday killing at least 77 people and injuring close to 200 persons, security, disaster and causing widespread damage to [url removed, login to view] added that nearly 200 persons were wounded in Region 7, 57 in Cebu and 104 in Bohol.

In Cebu, four of the fatalities were recorded when a fish market collapsed, the local government said. Another person was killed in another market, while one child was killed in a stampede as people panicked to leave a building and 33 people were injured, the NDRRMC said. Nineteen were reported injured in Mandaue City, 6 in Toledo City, nad 8 in Pinamungajan in Cebu.

The Office of Civil Defense in Region 7 said four people were reported killed at the Pasil Fish Port in Cebu City after a portion of its structure collapsed.

The fifth floor of the Cebu Doctors University Hospital reportedly caught fire while another part collapsed prompting the evacuation of patients and hospital staff.

The government is seriously considering declaring a state of calamity in Bohol and Cebu in the aftermath of the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the two provinces.
