I believe we can make "real" real time apps using meteor stack. I have a demo available for you - ibuild.meteor.com. It is a realtime agile dashboard. With this we can target all the mobile platforms.

Building a stand alone application with java allows you to run it in all java supported platform. In case you need and android app it can be easily converted by designing only the interface.
