Your task in this assignment is to choose a topic related to either ‘Walking’, Running’ or
‘Throwing’ that is of interest to you and write a literature review on this topic.
There are many possible areas for review within each of these topic areas so think broadly about
which topic you may choose. Examples of topics could include:
Sprinting biomechanics, Biomechanics of baseball pitching,
Distance running biomechanics, Javelin throwing biomechanics,
Ground reaction forces in running, Biomechanics of shooting in basketball,
The biomechanics of sprint starts, Biomechanics of cricket bowling,
The biomechanics of running injuries, Elbow mechanics in throwing,
Treadmill vs Ground running, Shotput
Dependent on your topic, the literature review should detail for the reader one or more of the
following:
How best to perform a particular skill / technique (with respect to performance or injury)
How a particular skill / technique has evolved and why (from a biomechanical perspective)
Why a particular piece of equipment / device is better for use in that movement / skill
How the application of a particular biomechanical concept improves performance of that
movement / skill
What further research is required
Note: The review content and the above conclusions should be drawn from original research
(primary scientific research literature) and be interpreted from a biomechanical perspective.
Original research is defined as articles that are experiment based. That is, they conducted an
experiemental analysis. Therefore, information and descriptions from review manuscripts,
coaching manuals and theory textbooks is not appropriate. Simply stating how something should
be done, without biomechanical explanation / justification and support from original research
evidence is NOT appropriate. A minimum of 8 original research articles is expected to be
reviewed. Other sources of information can be used in addition to the 8 original articles.
The Review Structure:
This review should represent a structured essay that consists of the following sections:
Introduction, Main Body Discussion and a Conclusion.
The introduction introduces your topic and establishes the purpose of the review. This may
take the form of a question you are interested in answering that is based on current practice or
concluding evidence of previous publications. That is, why are you doing this review and what
are your expected outcomes?
The main body discussion presents the information and current knowledge of the review
topic. It is within this section that you review the research. It is essential that you apply a
CRITICAL ANALYSIS approach to your review. That is, you should attempt to evaluate the
quality of the research and highlight any deficiencies in methodologies and conclusions when
discussing and comparing the research findings.
Reviewing the research does not mean describing / copying out what was done and found.
Rather, you are required to discuss investigations and compare findings so that contradicting
research/theories can be highlighted. You are advised to structure this section of the review in
such a way that allows a logical flow of information.
Subheadings are often a useful way of achieving a logical flow and are recommended where
appropriate. Tables, graphs and illustrations can also enhance your review if used moderately
and relevantly. In many cases you do not have to explain in written words the information that is
obtained in tabular or graphical form just simply direct the reader to it. Do not try to convey too

I have written lots of essays and reports on various niches, and able to provide you quality and unique contents without any error. Please see PMB for details and samples.
I am a medical doctor, and thus I am highly knowledgeable of this topic. I have written two published research articles, the titles of which are posted on my profile. In addition, I have been an academic freelance writer for five years, specializing on theses, research proposals, and laboratory reports. I have sent a sample of my writing through PM.
