Create Micro LED Modules that are Wirelessly Powered (Perhaps via IR?)

I need a reliable method of transmitting power wirelessly (perhaps by using infrared) to multiple LED receiver modules - each module will contain a single LED and MUST fit within a space approx. 5mm x 5mm x 5mm in size. This space includes all components for the receiver. Transmitter needs to be able to power the LED up to 1-2 meters away. Also needs to be as omnidirectional as possible... I know IR is typically line of sight, so I'd like to have this spread out as much as possible. If IR is not your solution, please present your idea to me for consideration. Overall design needs to be safe, will ultimately be used around children in the final product.
