1. Select a variety of market data from files residing on my hard drive. All data is in the same format. The only thing that will differ is the number of decimals (0-6)
2. Rank the selected markets by Trend strength and put them into three categories ??" (Up, Down, Sideways).
* **Trend strength can be defined by:**
* (Price yesterday ??" Price 1 yr ago)/Price 1 yr ago or;
* Slope
* **Up, Down, Sideways can be defined by:**
* Standard deviation ??" ex. If Price yesterday < (Price 1 yr ago + 1 Std. Dev) and Price Yesterday > (Price 1 yr ago - 1 Std. Dev) then trend is sideways. It would be handy to have std. dev and the lookback periods as variables for flexibility.
3. Be able to compute the rankings for a variety of different periods. Ex: What were the numeric rankings 1 week, 1 month, 6 months and 1 year ago for the markets selected?
4. Print line charts in a very clean and simple format. I want the option to print 1 chart/page or as many as 30 charts/page in order of trend rank. (May also like the ability to print in order of sector). On each chart have the Name, Price, Current Rank, Rank w period ago, Rank x period ago..y,z. Ex: **Canadian Dollar, $0.735, 3,5,8,9**
5. Output the same information into a table format as well. Again, ranked by either trend strength or sector.
That’s about it. It should be rather straightforward. What I envision is a program where I will need to initially tag the data files and assign a name and sector to each file. Once that is done, simply select the markets I want to rank, press a button and I have my output. :)
