Create Advertising Module based on Mosets tree

I have a website based on Joomla and the mosets tree directory. In the top left corner of directory and article pages I use a mosets module called MT_Listings which is set to currently show featured listings. At the moment they show at random. I'd like to know if its possible to show more related listings based on keywords/tags pulled from the current page.

So if its on a directory listing, it could compare tags or keywords. If its on an article page, compare article keywords. Then use those words to show a relevant featured listing. If there are no related listings then its ok to just show something random but with preference to higher rated listings.

Overall I'm looking for the Featured Listing module to show more relevant products to what ever is on the page. I'm open to ideas of how to go about it. Thanks for looking.

I should have mentioned you probably only need to modify the existing module, no need to rewrite the whole thing.
