DHMTL Newsletter with pop-up image functionality

I installed JavaScript pop-up image code in a DHTML newsletter. I used it to pop up graphics in the context of an article (the graphics are gif files). In my environment, the code works fine and I am pleased with the look and function of the pop-ups. However, when I go to e-mail the newsletter, the graphics do not seem to make the trip. I test e-mail the newsletter to myself and when I mouseover the words I have selected, the text underneath the graphics pops up just fine, but there is a red "X" where the graph or .gif file should appear. I am e-mailing the newsletter from MSWord 9.0. I notice that the graphic .gif files do not seem to be included in the [url removed, login to view] file and manually entering them doesn't seem to do the trick. If I imbed the graphics into the text (with no pop-up functionality), the graphs make the e-mail trip just fine. But, I'd like to be able to use the pop-up functionality.
