C Programming - Hash tables & Hash functions(repost)

In this program is to try to improve performance of a program by changing out the original data structure (AVL Tree) with some hash tables. This particular program will be to make the best performance update given a few rules: • The original implementation will be give to you which creates an AVL tree from a large dictionary containing some 225000 words. Then the program does a large number of lookups and times them. This basic structure of a hash table is not allowed to change. What is allowed to change in the underlying data structure that you use to implement your hash table (while conforming to the interface). • You will need to manage to create any kind of speedup in your program compared to the AVL tree. However, you must ensure that the amount of work that is done in both versions are the same - i.e., no cheating. The faster your program runs for the same amount of work (lookups), the more bonus points you will get on this assignment.
