I also understand and dealt extensively in the confirmation and discounting of LCs and spent 5 years in the secondary trade syndications markets, therefore I have a board understanding of market pricing you should be paying relating to the bank & country risk you will be confirming & discounting the LCs against. This will ensure that you are paying reasonable market pricing and not being overcharged for discounting, confirmation as well as transactional fees relating to the bank instruments. Have a good level understanding of forex (given nature of the job) as well as how T/Ts (wire transfers) are conducted. Have also deal with the use of nostro accounts (bank accounts overseas), so have a high level understanding of this.
