Design Simulation of Spray Type of Cooling Tower

ABSTRACT: Cooling water or processedwater is the very need of any industry. Itrequires cooling tower. Cooling towers areone of the major constituent of industry’sannual electricity bill. This situation raisedthe need for research in techniquesemployed for functioning of cooling [login to view URL] paper represents how the energyconsumption of evaporative cooling towercan be reduced without affecting theperformance of cooling tower. In thisproject, only one 1HP (for watercirculation) motor is used instead of twomotors of 1 HP(for fan) & 3 HP (for watercirculation in case of conventional type ofinduced draft cooling towers. This type ofcooling tower utilizes the principle ofdirect evaporative cooling. The position ofinlet hot water nozzles results in increasedheat transfer rate due more time forcirculation of water. This type of directevaporative cooling tower has anadvantage of reduced maintenance becauseof elimination of matrix required forinduced draft type cooling tower. Theauthor claims that direct evaporativecooling tower is more efficient thanconventional induced draft type coolingtower
