I am really interested in SW/HW development (especially based on Atmel's 8-bit devices). My last project was built on ATmega1284P (8-bit, 20MHz) and it included: -web server (password protected UI, modern-looking design and some javascript features) -DHCP client for auto obtaining IP address -NTP client for obtaining internet time -values of IR receivers displayed as progress bars -logging values to EEPROM memory and displaying them on a google graph -manual control with 6 buttons (enter time and other values) -LCD display 16x02 -carousel menu screens, including error handling -link to a php script that stores a bug report into an SQL database; including many sys. values -4 debugging screens: print values of all variables on a webpage, if allowed to all these features on a really low power device with an ethernet module. It runs really smooth, long uptime is no problem. I think I could definitely design and code similar device that would suit your needs. My code has always separated strings in an independent file 'language.h' for easy translation I use AtmelStudio 6.3. I can comment every line of code if you need.
