This essay is due An essay that covers a current social injustice in America. This project REQUIRES PRIMARY RESEARCH such as interviews or surveys, as well as secondary research. You must choose a social injustice that is • current • local • has a tangible effect on a group of people’s rights and opportunities • is somehow related to your experience in the world You will use arguments supported by both primary and secondary research to achieve this paper’s three purposes: • to persuade your audience that this injustice exists • to persuade your audience that this injustice is a problem • to persuade your audience that they can help eliminate this injustice through activism This assignment requires you to showcase the following skills: outlining, summarizing, agreeing, disagreeing, and providing personal evidence. It will also require new skills like conducting primary and secondary research and motivating an audience to take direct action. SAMPLE THESIS STATEMENT: The severe lack of African-American professors in community colleges, most of which are considerably populated by black students, is an injustice to the black community. Because of this proportional misrepresentation, black students are less likely to see members of their own race and themselves as successful and intelligent people, which contributes significantly to professional and personal foundering. In response, this community must request accountability on the part of their CCs by confronting the President and board of regents. DETAILS Length: 2000 to 2500 words of body text (do not include heading, header, or Works Cited page in the final count) Format: MLA 2009. (This i can revise and fix if needed... not too big of a deal) Citations: Use parenthetical references and include a Works Cited page Weight: 30% of final grade GRADING You will be graded on four areas: • Focus and Content - Does your essay achieve its purpose? • Organization - Did you organize your essay logically and fluidly? • Correctness - Did you apply grammar lessons and use MLA guidelines? • Assignment - Did you follow basic instructions? You will receive a grade on a scale from 0-100%, as well as the referring letter grade. I have an outline for the whole essay explaining what will be looked for in each paragraph but i will give out those details to whomever will complete this essay.
