Resumen del concurso

Design a Material Interface Surface (MIS)

In this challenge, you are asked to design the Material Interface Surface (MIS) for the contact between the separately designed robotic arm and Handrail. The MIS will be mounted to the free end of the robotic arm, though no consideration of how the mounting will occur is required for this challenge.

How it works: When a normal force is applied to the MIS, it must prevent slipping and/or twisting (between itself and the Handrail) due to normal motion of the robotic arm.

Click on the links below to see detailed design instructions, constraints and solution templates for this problem.

Challenge rules:
A prize will be awarded for the most efficient, technically feasible design. Design efficiency will be evaluated based on the lowest, credible estimated lines of code for implementing a solution.

This contest is now closed. Thank you for all of your hard work on some really great designs. The team will be evaluating the submissions and announce the winners as soon as we can (likely about 1-2 weeks). There are even more launching this month. We look forward to seeing more of this amazing talent! Thanks!

      Hi Heena,

Generally, you will be able to see your own entry, but it will be sealed to others. I can confirm that your entry above appears sealed to me, and should therefore be sealed to everyone else.

Hi. I have a question: Does the pull force act in only one direction?

Seems that no explicit description is given about this. The illustration (figure1) shows the pull force being exerted in only one direction.

    Thanks.

The force only acts in one direction and you can specify the orientation that the forces acts in relative to your design.

"Challenge rules: The prize will be awarded for the lowest mass, technically feasible solution," . The difference in mass for any potential solution would be minor, if not negligible. So i assume you're actually interested in the force needed to prevent slipping to be as low as possible?

There was a mistake with our blurb and the award will be given to those with the lowest necessary force as described in the problem document.
